Abstract
This document contains a recompilation of the current situation and status of the recent events that are preceding the Turnover of the Panama Canal into Panamanian hands. It is to understand that a deep analysis of the current situation and future implications of the present actions taken is not the purpose of this paper and by no means possible to accomplished due to the extent and vast amount of information and aspects that should be taken into consideration. Nevertheless by having a general understanding of aspects such as Economical, Administrative and Safety, it can be established an overview of what is currently been done and what might be necessary to be done by Panama in this regard. In the initial text it will be found several economical reasons for understanding the importance of the Canal and its influence in Shipping and viceversa. Followed by the legal implications and actions leading to the Turnover of the Canal, the position and role of the Panama National Maritime Administration it has to be in conjunction with the Canal since they should work together, therefore taken into consideration. Finally, based on the status of the conventions of the IMO and those that have been ratified by Panama, a summary of conclusions and recommendations can be suggested for the best purpose of showing how vital the link between the Maritime Administration and the Panama Canal it is.
