The overall objective of the SAFEPEC project is to provide stakeholders with a more rationalised and harmonised approach to perform inspections, thus proper and timely measures are adopted in order to reduce the risk of ship’s structure and equipment failure. Currently, ships are subject to inspections from several stakeholders. Each stakeholder has its own inspection method depending upon its role in the vessel operation. Therefore, inspection data can be of various scopes stretching from a single severe item to more elaborated descriptions of the ship condition. This means that data is collected in various formats ranging from check sheets to more comprehensive reports and databases. This approach will be based in risk based methods, specially developed for the project, with the definitive aim of facilitating not only the inspection regime implemented by maritime safety authorities, but also to support the maintenance programs scheduled by ship owners and repair yards.
