Abstract

Remote sensing is an important facet of fishery research and fishing operations because oceanographie conditions strongly influence natural fluctuations of fish stocks. Accordingly, satellite capabilities in fisheries have been long emphasized. Applications of satellite remote-sensing capabilities for fisheries from 1987 to 1998 are reviewed, emphasizing the relationship between sea surface temperature and hake availability in Namibian waters.
