Abstract
Singapore, the world's busiest seaport and the world's leading container port, has invested heavily in information technology (IT), including equipment, software, and training. Two major IT projects, CITOS (Computer Integrated Terminal Operations Systems) and CIMOS (Computer Integrated Marine Operations System) use command-and-control computers to direct every operation in the container terminal and in the port. Application of IT to the port operations in Singapore has shown real effective gains in cost reduction and better customer service.
