Abstract
The dissertation is a study of the fishing boatbuilding industry in Thailand, a variety of types and sizes obtained by traditional methods of construction. A brief look is taken at fishing vessels in common and technical terms for various parts, characteristics and terminology. The definition of a fishing vessel, and the International standard measurement of fishing vessels, taking into account safety rules produced by IMO through a set of safety regulations concerning equipment a vessel should carry. The concepts of control, the different areas of control, for example, control of the fishing industry, control of fishing vessels; conditions that promote control over access to fishery resources, mechanisms for controlling and enforcement of fishery regulations. The many causes of vessel casualties as well as improving vessel fitness and improving professional competency. In addition, the research has addressed the need of international standards for control and the main safety convention for the safety of fishing vessels, namely the Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels, 1977 and the 1993 Protocol. This Convention has not been enforce, but the author tries to show the necessary steps to follow the International Safety Standards in order to improve the safety of fishing vessels and fishermen in Thailand.
