Abstract
Since its creation in 1959, IMO has developed some thirty (30) conventions and protocols besides the many codes and recommendations prescribing the highest practicable global standards, procedures and practices for maritime safety and the protection of the marine environment. IMO achievements, which constitute the first step in establishing the desire standards, need the implementation of the appropriate standards and other relating activities affecting national flag ships. So and efficient Maritime -Safety Administration has become a necessity, for the maritime development of most countries on the international level, to achieve the harmonisation of regulations and procedures as set out in the IMO objectives. At this level the author intends to outline the work of a typical Maritime Safety Administration and offer some proposals/recommendations in order to try to improve safety and pollution prevention and keep up to date the structure of the maritime safety administration in Tunisia within the development of international shipping.
